TNME Mission

Texas New Music Ensemble is dedicated to the enrichment of Texas communities through the performance of contemporary art music created by Texas composers and performed by Texas musicians.

TNME Vision

Texas New Music Ensemble presents three annual concerts, multiple campus immersion concerts, and a number of smaller, more intimate performances in Houston, Texas. Additionally, TNME hosts an annual Student Composer Competition for student composers based in Texas, and commissions new works by established and emerging Texas composers.

By stressing the artistic work of Texas composers and Texas performing musicians we will instill a sense of pride in Texan art and heritage and spark interest in the current trends of classical music in local audiences.

PLANS FOR GROWTH

  • TNME will expand its Houston based annual concert series and present concerts in Austin, TX, and Fort Worth, TX during the 2017-2018 season.

  • TNME will sponsor a concert on behalf of Houston New Music Group, facilitating the promotion of young professional composers and performers. These young musicians will be provided with a platform to create their own concert from conception to fruition, under the guidance and support of TNME.

  • TNME will create an educational concert to be presented in public schools. This concert will include lectures and performances showcasing the history and development of Texas classical music from its earliest composers to those thriving today.

“A real musical culture should not be a museum culture based on music of past ages… It should be the active embodiment in sound of the life of a community – of the everyday demands of people’s work and play and of their deepest spiritual needs.”

– Wilfrid Mellers
